What is coaching presence?

Coaching presence is the coach’s ability to be fully conscious, grounded, and attentive with the client, staying open, curious, and comfortable with uncertainty rather than rushing to fix or fill the silence. It is the quality of attention a coach brings, and it is one of the competencies within the ICF Core Competencies.

In plain terms, it is what it feels like to be with a coach who is completely there for you: unhurried, non-judgemental, and genuinely listening.

Why coaching presence matters

Presence is what makes the rest of coaching work. Without it, questions become mechanical and the client senses it. With it, the client feels safe enough to think honestly and go deeper.
