New manager coaching: help your managers succeed in their first 90 days
New manager coaching supports a manager through their first months in a new role: a first management position, an expert who becomes a manager, or a leader taking on a broader scope. At Coachello, it runs over about 90 days with an ICF-certified coach, a kick-off three-way meeting with the participant’s manager and HR, and an AI coach available between sessions in Teams or Slack.
Who is it for?
- First-time managers leading a team for the first time (see also our first-time manager programme).
- Subject-matter experts who become managers and need to move from doing the work to getting it done through others.
- Managers changing roles: new scope, new team, new country.
- Executives taking up a new position (see our executive coaching).
How new manager coaching works
- Kick-off three-way meeting: the participant, their manager, HR and the coach agree on 2 to 3 observable goals for the first 90 days.
- Sessions with an ICF-certified coach, by video, in English, French or any of our 50+ languages, with a number of sessions adapted to the situation.
- Between sessions: the AI coach helps prepare a first one-to-one, a team meeting or a difficult conversation, with realistic roleplays.
- Closing three-way meeting: progress is measured against the goals set at the start.
The most common topics
- Finding your stance as a manager, especially with former peers
- Setting expectations and delegating
- Running your first one-to-ones and giving feedback
- Handling an underperforming team member or a conflict
- Building the relationship with your own manager
What HR can track
HR sees activation, attendance and progress for each programme, as well as whether the goals set in the three-way meeting are met. Session content stays confidential between the coach and the participant. Several new managers starting soon? Talk to an expert to set up coaching you can activate as each new role begins.
Frequently asked questions
How long does new manager coaching last?
About 90 days, the period in which a new manager builds credibility and makes their first key decisions.
Do we need to wait for a cohort to start coaching?
No. Coaching can be activated as soon as a new role is confirmed, without waiting for a group programme.
New manager coaching or manager training?
They work together: training provides shared tools, and coaching helps each manager apply them to their own situation. Coaching can be added to your existing management programme or academy.
How much does new manager coaching cost?
The price depends on the number of sessions and participants. See our corporate coaching pricing.
